A New Thread Full of Girls and Rock and Roll
...Well, of course you opened it. How could you not?
Okay, here's the deal: I was leafing through the AARP magazine today (well, I become eligible in six years, so what the heck). In the birthday section, I see Charlotte Caffey -- guitarist for The Go Gos -- has just turned 50. FIFTY! These are the Go Gos we're talking about!
Back story: I went to San Francisco State between 1980 and '83 -- the Go Gos' heyday. Our dorm was full of L.A. Valley Girls who worshipped this band, and even I liked them enough to go see them live three times. They rocked, too. They started out way punkier than most people remember.
Anyway...while I was startled and amazed that they're actually pushing midlife, they're still out there doing their thing. And then I thought of all the girls I knew in high school and college, who are now mature, complex people with families, jobs, lives, doing whatever...and I know that inside, they -- just like me -- are still 19 years old. Age is just a number, right?
RIGHT??

Speaking of Rock n Roll... my 20 y.o. son and I visited the R&R Hall of Fame in OhioRacerLand back in August
What a great spot If you ever get within 500 miles of Cleveland, be sure to plan a visit and allow an entire day! I would not have believed it...something for everyone in Vintage...and their kids, too

I was present at the opening of the R & R Hall Of Fame back in 1995. What a sweet place! It's designed like a pyramid...you enter the building and look up -- what do you see hanging from the rafters but the Trabants U2 used for their "Zooropa" tour. You ascend smaller and smaller levels until you reach the top: a dark room containing the names of the inductees.
Totally cool! As Mott the Hoople says, "Cleveland Rocks!"
And Smokee -- I share your feelings about Belinda, although Jane Weidlin was always my favorite.
