The New Trivia Thread.

A while back a few of us were playing trivia in a now forgotten thread. It's been a few weeks since anyone posted to that thread, so I thought I'd start a new one.

Anyone can post a question, and anyone can answer. The only rule is that the poster cannot post another question until his/her first question is answered by others, or the answer supplied by the poster. Please, only post questions that you know the answer to. If you are asking a question out of curiosity, please say that and say that you don't know the answer.

When you answer the question, please do so without looking it up. This is from memory. If you look the answer up, you can say so, but don't give away the answer.

Subjects can be from anything from old music, to movies, to cars to just about anything you can think of. They can be multiple questions. Lets have some fun.

I'll start:

Recently Rolling Stone Magazine named Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone" the greatest rock and roll song ever recorded. Previously, Britian's "New Musical Express" said the same thing.

1. How long was the song?
2. How long was it when released on a 45 rpm record?
3. What was the record label?
4. When was it recorded?
5. Where was it recorded?
6. What is Dylan's real name?
7. Where was he born?

3. Columbia
6. Robert Zimmerman
7. Minnesota-you betcha

Very good.

The other answers:

1. "Like a Rolling Stone" as originally recorded was 5 minutes and 59 seconds long.
2. When Columbia released it on a 45 rpm record they claimed it was too long, but Dylan refused to shorten it. Columbia records split it in half, putting half of the song on each side of the record, but somehow each side became 3 minutes and two seconds long. Somehow the song became 5 seconds longer.
3. It was recorded on June 15, 1965
4. It was recorded at Columbia's studios in New York City.

Next question:

In 1952 Richard M. Nixon was surrounded by scandal concerning his use of campaign money. He made a speech that was later to become known as the "Checkers Speech" in honor of his dog Checkers. In this speech he spoke of his wife's coat.

What kind of coat did Richard M. Nixon claim that Pat Nixon had?

Morris 12-06-2004 02:21 PM

I don't know what Pat's was, but Checkers' was black and white, made from dog hair, I think. Do I get a bone for that answer?

Ulrich 12-06-2004 02:33 PM

Patricia Nixon did "not have a mink coat, but a respectable Republican cloth coat."

For those who care: Nixon Introduces his wife's coat

Next question: Which firm's 70,000 seasonal white-collar employees work only four months a year? Ah, nevermind. :D

Oddly enough, I cannot think of any suitable questions. I'll let someone else have a go at it in my place...
