paS2k wants a post stress biz...the last place I'd be is with a franchised service company with rolling stock...Thats a lot of time and work for a fixed return
I just caught this in another column posted by rick heisel
"It might be easy for you, but I get 100 to 150 emails a day, and spend several hours answering it, and typically put in 12 hours work days. Sometime we just can't answer it all. Plus I'm traveling all the time in my real job and days will go by before any email is anwered. I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is. Neither, James, Jeff, or I have this as a real job, nor could we ever make a living off this business, unless we'd all want to be on welfare"
and thats regarding ricks online business...lots of work there too....and as he says...if they had to make a living they'd be on welfare.
My thoughts are this...If it's a second "career" job. Set down certain parameters that meet your needs first..for example. I only want to work 6 months a year or I never want to work on a weekend or in the evening. The best one is "I want to be happy doing it"
Then look at your local economy and go for niches there. Everybody sells life preservers but not many install them on boats. I have a friend who spends a couple months each summer building and refurbishing xmas displays he keeps in a barn.
He rents and puts them on commercial properties. His whole business is less that 5 months a year but he makes a very good living here in S Florida. He doesn't work the rest of the year, just bends his fishing rod and plays golf.
Anyway whatever niche you find good luck
