Strange. Those are the exact same locations that Looter has on his travel bucket list!

hmmm would be real curious as to selection criteria.
they seem to be oriented towards shops that have a schtick rather than good old awesome ice cream.
Rota Springs's ice cream is my nominee.

they own the cows and make the ice cream.
like it should be.

we also used it as Titan's socialization spot.
ever since he was a little 12 week old pup we would bring him here so he would be used to large crowds of folks walking up and petting him.

There is Fosselman's just down the street from me. Legendary, around here.

When it comes to ice cream I think a lot has to do with where you grew up. I loved the ice cream that was 3 blocks away from where I grew up. There's a really popular place locally and another that's up north where we go every year. Both always have long lines but I won't walk across the street for either let alone 3 blocks. And the one up north is just a Bolts described; in fact, you can sit on the porch and look out at the cows in nearby fields.

I crave an ice cream cone a few times a year, generally when we are cruising top down. The other week I wanted a cone, but everywhere we went by had long lines. Never mind. This place is right near my house, easy walking distance if I so desire. The line is often out the door in the evenings. Their ice cream is really good, but I don't like ice cream enough to wait in a long line. Another local roadside place sells the ice cream made by Acushnet Creamery, they are pretty busy too.

Ice cream treats for the family aren't inexpensive any more. If you don't spend darn near $20.00 for a family of four for pretty basic ice cream, I'd be surprised.

Many years ago we had a great place called Gifford's here in Arlington. An institution that has disappeared along with some others, unfortunately.

Thanks for the info, Ken. Definitely a nice list to consult if traveling to one of those areas.

I think Dave hit it on the head. We always have a special place in our hearts for that really good local place that had the best brown cow or Mexican sundae or butterscotch royal. For me, that place is Seneca Farms in Penn Yan, N.Y. Make mine a hot fudge sundae with White Mountain Raspberry ice cream. Don't forget the crushed peanuts.Hard Ice Cream Flavors
