And now crappy steel
The Kobe Steel scandal: What we know so far - Oct. 16, 2017
Selling steel as a better product than it was really creates a safety problem for the auto manufacturers.
Look at the special color frame pictures from any of the automakers and they will show the special High Grade steels in the crash sensitive areas.
Except whoops maybe it wasn't so good after all.
I'm surprised none of the automakers caught it during incoming inspection.
Apparently lot testing is a wonderful legacy of the past.

Yeah I read about that in the WSJ last week. Big scandal in Japan.

It is hard to believe given the push for safety in planes, trains, and automobiles that this can take so long to be discovered. We all know it can happen. There are crooks in very country and very profession.

I buy steel. Plates of steel along with other steel products, for the equipment we mfg. Recently I've been offered Chinese steel, European steel.....huh? I've not heard anything from the guys in the shop about the quality of what is in the shop. I've probably purchased Chinese steel along the way and didn't even know it. We don't require certifications for the steel we do purchase. Or do we?
At least we aren't building planes and boats....
