There are between one and two hundred elk in the neighborhood this evening spread out over about 5 acres.

Because they don't sit down on them.

The green caught my eye first and made wonder if she had an ear tag.
Then I saw there the reddish tinge and realized she had a tracking collar.

The demarcation between top coat and bottom coat is a pretty sharp line.
I would tend to be pretty conservative when getting near these beasts.
I wouldn't want to get between a bull and his harem of cows that might be more exciting than I'd want to play a part in.

Patty- I get deer by me, but they are so 'normal'. Having elk roaming the neighborhood seems spectacular.

The awards page - stunning. I wonder how much time some of them spent in post-processing.

https://flickr.com/explore is another interesting one. If you're a flickr user, its in the top menu, Explore/Recent. I clicked it today to see. Some amazing work there that any of us might never have the chance to see. Some normal stuff, but plenty of fantastic shots there to browse.

There are a few with collars. They do attack people who get close during the rut in the fall. This time of year they're calm.
