Explanation: Recorded during 2024, this year-spanning series of images reveals a pattern in the seasonal drift of the Sun's daily motion through planet Earth's sky. Known to some as an analemma, the figure-eight curve was captured in exposures taken only at 1pm local time on clear days from Kayseri, Turkiye. Of course the Sun's position on the 2024 solstice dates was at the top and bottom of the curve. They correspond to the astronomical beginning of summer and winter in the north. The points along the curve half-way between the solstices, but not the figure-eight curve crossing point, mark the 2024 equinoxes and the start of spring and fall. Regional peaks and dormant volcano Mount Erciyes lie along the southern horizon in the 2024 timelapse skyscape.

 

Saw some family today.

My cousins are in from Ohio, wife in front, husband standing. His brother sitting across from his wife. Their daughter and her husband in the back, my Mom and I to the right and my cousin from the assisted living facility nearby with the hat.

I didn't know they were all coming, I thought it was just 4 of us for lunch.

The two brothers are my first cousins, the 3rd brother is also in Ohio. They are my mom's nephews (7 total), Rachel, the daughter is one of 16 great nieces/nephews, and mother of 2 of my mom's 34 great great nieces/nephews. She is always excited to see people when family come in, particularly as she has aged (the tie to Legal Bill's thread) and always makes sure to get pictures.

 

Wow, Gary. Nice family meetup. We did something similar in Penn Yan this past Thanksgiving. It was wonderful.

Paul and Alan are brothers (my first cousins) - the 4rd brother, along with Alan live in Columbus.
Rachel is Paul and Ilene's daughter
Paul S is a cousin who lives in assisted living nearby. Everyone but Alan and Becky also live in Central NJ.

 

I have a friend who used to own a framing store. Before he retired, I had him make me three identical frames to hold 35x7 images. When I travel, I try to find something that works as a panoramic image. Every once in a while, I put 4 on a poster, send it out for printing then slice it to size when it arrives. I then change them for a different look in my office.

The three in the frames are going up (Denali, Glacier NP - Logan Pass, and a long exposure shot of a stream when we stayed up in the Berkshires)
Coming down are Florence Italy, Coachella Valley, and the 6th hole at Pebble Beach.
