Old photo albums
With two grandchildren now, I need room for toys for two. I keep their toys and things in the closet in the guest room. I needed to re-organize tonight, and the photo albums I used to store there had to be moved.
I no longer print many pictures as they are all saved to a disk, but I obviously can't part with the old photo albums. Someone might want them when I kick the bucket.
I probably have 10-12 albums, a few from earlier days, and most of them from the last 15 years or so. LOTS of pics of the granddaughter. Someday her brother will ask why I don't have as many pictures of him....it's always that way with the second kid, second grandchild....
I think the albums will end up in the attic in sealed plastic containers. Maybe not the best place, but probably better than the basement.
What have you all done with your old photo albums?

I would suggest storing them in a lower location in case of fire, God forbid.
Basement no due to moisture.
Maybe a closet on the bottom floor.

Good point on the attic issue though...
Maybe I can work them into a coat closet in the living room.....

We live in a one story three bedroom ranch. Closets are full and these albums take up a lot of room.

I have been scanning all the old family photos. Then puting them on CDs. But the originals I am keeping in albums in an old cedar chest that my grandfather made. If anything should happen the CDs are portable enough to grab and run.

Buy a Flash USB drive of however many GB's you need (I just recently bought a 1GB flash drive for $12.99) and off load them to this flash drive and store it off site (perhaps at your office) or in a lock box at your bank.
Maybe I can just pass the albums off on family members..

GO through your albums...pick out 30 or 40 of your favorite pictures. Get them scanned...at least 300 dpi...and written to a cd or dvd. Or get copies made and store them in a safe deposit box or at work.
We lost all our wedding pictures when a hurricane blew rain through a closed window (I guess the window wasn't completely sealed) and on to a bunch of albums we had on a shelf under the window.
That was just stupidity on our part but a good backup is also helpful in the event of fire or flood.

I've scanned many of our old pics and will continue to do them one box at a time.
I've also put together video files set to music where the pics change and given copies to family members.
I gave one to my aunt for her 70th birthday (last of 8 children alive) and you can't imagine how appreciative she was.
