Thanks...I have already booked KLM. We do not have the option of extending our trip - 9 days is a lot for the +1 to be away from work. We normally just take long weekend trips. He is an artist and will love the art museums. I'm sure at least one of them will be on an organized tour with Avalon. I will keep in mind the smaller canal boats. One thing I never visited on my previous trips is the Ann Frank House. Is it worth it?

Yes it is. Much improved from a decade or so. Pay attention to times so you can avoid long lines. It is a popular destination.

Just make sure +1 goes to the art museum and not

Red Light District Amsterdam

It is very likely that you have heard about this neighbourhood and to be frank, everything you have heard is probably true. From brothels to sex shops to museums, the Amsterdam Red Light District has it all. But contrary to what a lot of people might think, the Amsterdam Red Light District has a very friendly atmosphere and isn't as dangerous as it used to be.

Deb, you may be interested in the following travel blog. This guy, who lives near me, fortunately has the means to travel about 3/4 of the year. Before I retired, I worked with his sister, which is how I discovered his blog. He leads a very charmed life, for sure.

Just a friendly reminder: pickpockets are still in session around all the usual tourists areas including the red light district (There are actually 3-4) I would avoid that area late at night.

I have a “throw away” wallet with only cash for my front pocket sacrificial lamb and another zip wallet that loops on my belt and goes inside of my pants next to my underwear/skin. That has an ID, credit card, ATM, and the real wad of cash. I don’t recommend wallet that go around your neck. I have seen two people right in front of my eyes have them stolen in an instant. The black and brown loops are designed to match your belt. You do not notice you have it on. I find it easy to remove and replace while at a register or even sitting down.
