U.S. Army 1966-1968. Never left the states, 591st MP Co., Ft. Bliss Texas.
My brother got drafted 6 months before me, into the Navy! He was even better off, spent his time in Virginia Beach!
We both considered ourselves lucky!

U.S. Army 1970-1972 after "winning" the first draft lottery! I was number nine (in theory 1-10 were drafted on Jan 2, 1970)
I was very lucky in that I was stationed at Fort Dix after basic training (C4-2) as Cadre with a radio operator training company (B1-5) MOS 05B. I missed a hugh levy for Vietnam with thirteen months before ETS because I was picked for a TDY assignment at the Pentagon.
I spent the rest of my time as a "chair borne" "Remington Ranger" at the "Puzzle Palace". Where I did "interesting work" with a Top Secret clearance. I became the Army's first 91G and the first enlisted person to ever go on a Department of the Army IG Inspection Tour.
I ETS'd in January of 72' with an Army Commendation Medal (of which I am proud).
I think that Veteran's Day should be a mandatory paid holiday for ALL veterans not just a government holiday that benefits a lot of government workers that are not veterans.
I have the utmost respect for all veterans for their service and especially the ones that served in the two thankless conflicts (Korea and Viet Nam) where they never got a welcome home. From one veteran to another: Welcome Home!
