Default Pepperidge Farm

I've been thinking about this for a while now and I decided that this is the right place to discuss this issue. My wife and I like cheese and crackers and we usually put some out when we entertain. We buy Pepperidge Farm Cracker Quartets and put them out with the cheese. The Hearty Wheats (octagon shaped) and the Butter Thins (butterfly shaped) always go quick. I think Butter Thins are my favorite, but it depends on my mood.

I've noticed the Toasted Sesame (rectangles with sesame seeds) are a distant third and the English Water (round and white) are just plain unpopular. It isn't unusual for us to have two or three boxes of Quartets open, all empty of Butter Thins and full of English Waters.

So this statrted me thinking. Why does PF package these things like this? Do they have union contracts that require the manufacture of unpopular crackers?Who likes the English Waters? I don't and my guests don't. Why does Pepperidge Farm make them? Is there some part of the country or segment of society that covets English Waters as I do Hearty Wheats? Maybe somewhere there are households with two or three open boxes of Quartets filled with unopened Butter Thins.

So what about you? Do you have some unopened Butter Thins or Hearty Wheats that you would like to trade for my Toasted Sesames and English Waters? Does anyone even know what I'm typing about???

Bill,

When I was at your house last week, I may have contributed to your glut of unwanted crackers.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but I don't like the ones with sesame seeds either.

Just buy Ritz from now on. Go back to the basics.

I for one love English Waters. You can put different kinds of cheese and bland taste of that cracker brings out the best flavor from cheese instead of overwhelming the cheese with cracker's own taste. I guess I am purist.
By the way, I went to Whole Foods Market and picked up some great dessert and organic coffee. Wow! That is a fabulous place.

Bill, looks like you can mail all those unused English Waters to John. This clearly works well with the principle of "conservation of cookie," originally described by Isaac Newton and recently adopted by Fig Newton.

Chaz,

Your Red Sox is losing right now but Yanks are too. That is good though. I hope Yanks can pull one out today.

Cool. Will you trade for butter thins or hearty wheats?

From crackers to cars? I always buy the reduced fat Wheat Thins. Always watching our weight in this household.
