Default Personal does not mean private on line

This from CNN: "I do think it's an invasion of privacy," says Melissa Bush, a business major at the University of Dayton. "But when you think about it, anything you post online is open season."

When she interviewed for an internship last summer, her interviewer told her upfront that they'd be checking her Facebook profile. She didn't worry because she's careful about what she posts -- but lately, she's been deleting messages from friends that she deems inappropriate.

"If you don't want people to read it, don't post it," Bush says. "If you don't want people to see a video, don't post it."

As we've discussed here before, while we may feel secure in our little S2KI world, what we post is here for the world to see. Just type your screen name into Google and see how fast you are found!

Though I doubt many of us use "My Space", we obviously all use the internet.

Read the rest here: Personal is not private on line!

That's one reason I post with my real name. If I'm not willing to put my name on it in public, then I probably shouldn't be posting it at all.

Sorry, I just posted without thinking how that sounded (hope nobody saw it).

Good policy, Mike.

I really could care less whether someone is sitting around googling up everything I'm saying/doing on the web. I'm the same person in person as I am online. WYSIWYG as far as I'm concerned. If anything is all that private, then I wouldn't be throwing it out here for the entire online community to see it. I do not like it when people use my full name and prefer not to use it online for reasons of my own. If I wanted my name used, then I would have chosen that for my screenname.

Apparently someone out there is impersonating me - well my screen name anyway. Or am I impersonating them?
