I think it depends on what you are talking about. As far as chipping, they may all be the same. Check out this site and then check the links to PPG. There is quite a bit to glass making.

I do believe how well the windshield is made, including fit and finish so to speak, will vary by manufacturer. No question about that. Thus my recommendation, and all the installers I spoke with, for staying with OEM. As for pitting, chipping, and breakage I believe it has to do with the car's aerodynamics. It has. by design, a lower nose than most and a more up right windshield than most cars, making it an easy target. I certainly do not believe there's anything to the unfounded claim that the OEM windshield uses 'softer' glass than most. That was someone's speculation that just won't die.

Hmmm. How did the windshield replacement posts get mixed in with the quality thread?

Anyway, I wonder if any manufacturers coat the windshield glass or put it through different treatment processes. Also, what would be the effect of thinner or thicker plastic in the middle laminate layer of the windshield. Finally, I wonder if thicker glass resists chipping any differently than thinner glass?
