Default Re Civic Type R - Honda listens...maybe

If you want to save a few bucks...or a few thousand...on a super hot hatch and you can live without AWD, the Civic Type R is a great option. Well, except it is hideous. The majority opinion on pretty much all the car mag reviews and automotive web sites is that the Type R is wildly over styled and would confer instant boy-racer status on anyone who drives one. Well, Honda MAY be planning to offer a toned-down version. While not exactly a sleeper, this restyling option may offer some relief to the eyes of potential Type R buyers. HondaTech has some speculative info here:

Still a little like a ricer for my taste.

I agree the type R is severely over styled. It looks like a throwback to the early 2000's when the first Fast and Furious movie started the ricer craze. Honestly, from that picture I can't really tell a difference. It needs to be toned down a lot more in my opinion to have long term appeal and not look dated in the future. Something like the Mazda 3 hatch but with a touch more flair would be nice.

It's a good start. I'd consider buying one with the re-sized (down) rear spoiler.

If I ever buy a car with a wing like that, please just shoot me.

Butt ugly and ridiculous.

I would've bought the Type R instead of the Si except for three things:

1) The rear wing. I don't have a problem with the rest of the styling, but the rear wing is way over the top. As a matter of fact, the styling has grown on me. The longer I have my Si the more I like it. Still, the wing on the Type-R is unacceptable.
2) The MSRP. $34,000 seems a bit (maybe more than a bit) too much for the car. Especially when you can buy an Si for $9,000 less.
3) The $15,000 dealer markup. The Si and Type R arrived in my dealer's show room at the same time (I got their first Si). At the time all of the New Jersey Honda dealers were asking a $15,000 markup for the car. If $34,000 is too much for the Type-R than $49,000 is certainly too much.

Other than that, I really like the car and would have bought it.

The restyling has been rumored for a long time. The Type R is going to be available in a few different flavors according to the rumors.

Re: the wing, and that pic. It wasn't clear to me that the pic was something of an artist's conception of how an RR model would actually look or if it was just a shot of the current Type R. I guessed the latter. The text SOUNDED to me like the RR would retain only the lip spoiler and delete the wing. But I found the text to be a bit confusing on that point.

Or is that just me?

The wing does not make it a deal breaker to me (We drove an EVO X for several years) but a smaller one might be my choice if I was in the market.

I saw the type R in person when I was at the dealer a few months ago. As much as I wanted to like it, it just didn't appeal to me.
