I just had my third one. In the first one I was awake and could follow the procedure on the monitor. Just like driving through the Hudson tunnel. Towards the end the doctor told me to open my mouth so he could stop when he saw light

The last two I was out. That was more comfortable.

Dave, the rest of us will weigh in on if you have a nice butt at SF09.
Tighter pants are required for a proper "hands-free" inspection.

two quick thoughts jump to mind..
one. forget any concept of TMI when reading this thread.
two. this is one of those few threads that are definitely NOT useless without pictures.

Had two. Repeating what everyone else is saying, the prep is horrendous.
I did the Gallon-o-stuff once and I did the mag citrate once. The gallon-o-fun was much more annoying.

This thread started with a reprint of Dave Barry's wonderful column on the topic. I remember when this was first published a while back -- what was really a hoot was the subsequent discussion on his blog. People wrote in about their own wonderful experiences, and I couldn't read it without laughing hysterically. The whole thing probably did more to motivate people to get checked than any national campaign. HPH

Yep, can't be afraid to talk about this important subject.

My motivation for early testing was when Katie Couric lost her husband from colon cancer at a young age. I went for testing earlier than may have been recommended, but due to family history, the insurance company had no issue with paying for the test.

The first time I only had to drink the Gallon-O-Crap. The second time I had to do the Mag Citrate PLUS the Gallon-O-Crap. I didn't mind so much what it did to me (it was expected) as much as how much you had to drink. My second doctor told me that some times he has his patients drink two, yes two Gallon-O-Crap over two days!! I think he is a sadist!!

I had my first last December, it wasn't at all what I'd been led to expect.

My wife is a nurse and I followed her advice, I told the doctor I wanted the pills and small citrate. Everything came out fine.

The procedure is just a very foggy memory, I vaguely remember feeling uncomfortable a couple of times.

The doctor suggested to do it again in 3 years. I'm not looking forward to it particularly, but I won't dread it again.

I'd suggest if someone has been putting it off, just do it.
It isn't that bad considering the misery it could prevent.

As parties go they have pretty good dope but the initiation sucks.

It was a lot like my only Greek initiation - by mid morning the next day I sharted myself.

I'm not looking forward to the next one in 10 years but at least I know the drill. Unless, of course, the drill gets a bit easier by then.

Maybe in 2018 you'll be able to take one pill, spend an hour and a half in the can, and be ready for your close-up.
