IMHO, many of us vintage folks learned how to drive when the information on how set one's side view mirror was incorrect. If you are like many people, we were instructed to set the side view mirror to look back along side of the rear fenders. However, one is NEVER going to have a collision with one's own rear fenders, except when backing up.

FWIIW: Back in July my Brother, who was visiting from California mentioned the blind spots on his vehicle. I sent him the information in thisLINK from the guys from Car Talk

I told him then that is would take about two weeks to get use to having one's mirrors set this way. I followed up with an E-mail about two weeks latter and he stated that it worked for him and that he was amazed that after forty-six years of driving that he had not figured that out on his own.
