Pretty cool story about that Bose 901. I have an old Project-One turntable. Try to restore that along with the amps.

My cousin brought home a bunch of old Luxman vacuum tube equipment, from his tour on the Kitty Hawk. I bet he wishes he still had them.

There is part of me that misses that era.

I just throw old audio equipment away and buy new. My hearing is bad. It really doesn't matter to me what other people think of the sound produced by old versus new stuff.

Every time this thread pops up, I think it's about hearing aids!

My kids (late 20s, early 30s) grew up with my stuff. I was like a drill sergeant on record vinyl discipline and cleaning as well as storage. They grew to like it a lot. Today my son is building a collection of vinyl and my daughter prefers her grandfather's amp/receiver driving huge speakers, with here bluetooth interface of course.

I remember catching part of a conversation as my son and his friends were flipping though my vinyl collection: "Dude, your dad is a ROCKER!" (Overlooking my extensive classical, baroque, and jazz collection!)

This is system going into spare room, I finally cleared of 20 years of guitar amp junk. The speakers and amps were in mothballs. I'm finding all kinds of boxed up stuff. Like Laserdiscs (how 1990s are those?). And this...

Will try to get all this old stuff working again. Dunno about the amp. Very hard finding main power supply filter capacitors. May have to get a new amp, while looking for parts, for the old one. As for hearing, I'm lucky. No tinnitus or hearing loss. Even after years of electric guitar playing.

^I would call that a miracle and thank whatever god you pray to.

All I appreciate is volume. No sense investing in equipment that can reproduce sounds I can't hear.

Foam surround fix for tweeter. Bought ring, online, from Simply Speakers.

Pulled entire backing off old foam surround. Being careful if tiny connection wires.

Kept white backing ON new foam. Used 3M Spray Adhesive to apply.

Too real ! But I do have a really great RCA radio out in the garage I love. Heck, if it was good enough for mom and dad.......... really it is better sounding than the fancy CD player near it. May have to post a picture.

I have an older friend of mine who swore up and down that a new stereo was going to do him no good because he "blew out his eardrums going to Zep concerts way back when."
. . . retired, moved to Sierra Foothills, and LOVES his $1800 Magneto-Planar speakers and his $$ amplifier pumping through his high-bitrate digital files.

That said, buying a fancy-pants record player was one of the best investments I've made. It's a little expensive for a record player, but still pretty cheap for a time machine.
