The EPA is now investigating the 3.0-liter TDI V6 diesel engine, found in numerous Audis and the Porsche Cayenne. There's also still the matter of the fine VW will need to pay, which could be up to $18 billion (so far). The CEO may be gone but this story is just starting, so keep your popcorn handy.

My 2010 Audi Q7 TDI (3.0 V6) required AdBlue and my wife's 2010 Jetta TDI (traded-in '12) did not IIRC.

Sure will be interesting to see how far this goes with the other makes under VAG.

Look how many states have emission testing. All those cars will now fail and under law cannot be licensed.

Wonder how they'll get around that one?

Years-long recalls to do the AdBlue add would be my guess around this. Or, cash-for-clunkerssmokers.

The interesting part is VW can't force a customer to get a recall.
If the performance is crappy after the fix, customers might balk at getting the update.
I could easily see the feds passing a mandate down to the states to retest within XX days or your registration will be revoked.

I wonder if BMW and Mercedes used the same tricks.

Doubtful. As was noted earlier here (and elsewhere), all of them have had urea systems (or similar), except VW.
