Shooting the Breeze 17-19
Today was day three of making ourselves scarce so the painter could do his work.
Today we headed to Attleboro, MA to an art museum/flower show. Admission was $5.00 so I got what I expected for the price of admission. Some of the art was very nice, some photography was nice, and a couple floral displays. Let's say the marketing people might have oversold the "flower show" aspect.
So what was next? Well, we haven't been to a casino in a very long time and there are many more of them. We stopped at one in Tiverton, RI. OMG the cigarette smoke!! ICK. (They are going smoke free next January) They only had one small room that was non smoking. We headed there. I have no clue as to what current slot machines are all about and had no clue as to what I was doing. Fed the machine $10.00 and quickly lost most of it.
Moved to another machine where the betting seemed a bit clearer, and went from $1.60 to $57.00 and some change. Cashed out and we were out of there. $47.00 richer than when we went in. I don't think we spent 20 minutes there. Casinos are not for us.
Off to lunch, which was mostly covered by my big win! We took a quick ride towards the beach and home where the painter was packing up. I like the color of the room I selected. Good thing.

I just had a knock on the door at my home. We were going to avoid answering the door as we have a "no solicitiing" sign. But my wife looked closely at the person and she said that it looked like a kid. He had a broken bike pedal in his hands. I then decided to answer the door. It turns out that it was a kid who was riding his bike through our area, and one pedal came off. The mounting nut was gone. He was a bit of a distance from his home, and it was getting late. He knocked on the doors of some homes on my street and no one would help him, but someone told him to check with me at my home (nice people eh lol ? ).
I went into the garage and started looking for some nuts. His pedal mounting thread was pretty dirty and the kid had muddy boots. I got the mounting thread cleaned up and I started looking for a nut that could possibly fit, with no idea of what size of nut would be needed. By some miracle I found one heavy duty suspension nut and it threaded on perfectly. It was the right shape and size and depth. I put some thread-locker on the threaded portion and I cranked on the nut, with my tools. It fit perfectly. I tightened the other pedal too while we were at it.
I told the kid that it was his lucky day. The chance of someone finding a nut to fit that application was pretty rare, and all of the hardware stores were closed. He hopped on his bike and it worked perfectly, and he proceeded to ride off towards home. He was appreciative. He was kind of down when he first knocked on our door though. A good day, and a bit fun wrenching on a bike, lol.

Is it just me or is this the wrong town to locate a motorcycle dealership?

I wonder how motorcycles are selling in general in the USA. I know many Harley Dealerships have closed up in our region within the last two years, these are long standing dealerships that have been in operation for decades. One closed in our home town, one closed up about one hour west of us, and one closed up that was one hour east of us. I don't know how this trend compares to other motorcycle brands, but Harley dealerships are closing up all over the place here. I would much rather have a Ducati or Aprilia than a Harley though.
I figure there is some trend occurring with that brand specifically, I have never walked into a Harley dealership in my life, but the one in my home town was a staple in the community. I suspect the younger generations have no interest in Harley motorcycles and would find them too expensive. Just guessing.
Last week we tried to plan a few outings around the weather while the painter worked. Today, we are trying to do the same, and, of course, it's raining. We have a couple large pipes in the basement which are showing signs of aging. The plumber noticed them a while ago and we ended up on the back burner for a while.
The water will be turned off, no toilet for a while, so off we go. We will re-visit the Newport Car Museum and have lunch somewhere. I guess that will be better than dodging raindrops on a trail somewhere.
Damn, I need some sunshine.
