Well, out of the people accused so far, they all have multiple accusers. We even have men accusers! I doubt seriously men would come out with these stories if they were not true. The details are very embarrassing to reveal.

I suspect that since males are typically ( but certainly not always) the aggressors in sexual situations there is a certain sensitivity to the "She said, He said" scenarios.
Proving (or disproving) any events at a later time is always difficult under the best circumstances.
I'm not sure I would agree with Dean on the McCarthyist comment though.
I think the dam has broken and the shame and stigma associated with the situation has been lifted.
It's not the boys club anymore and that behavior isn't ok anymore.
Companies are now afraid of the legal and monetary liability of allowing the behavior to continue.

All I am trying to say is that accusations are ruining lives and careers. It may be well deserved, but there also may be cases where it is unwarranted and made for personal gain, or retribution for something other than what is claimed. If guilty, I would cast the first stone, but in this atmosphere, even if you are innocent, you suffer anyway.
One that comes to mind was the McMartin preschool trials in the Los Angeles area. "After six years of criminal trials, no convictions were obtained, and all charges were dropped in 1990. When the trial ended in 1990, it had been the longest and most expensive criminal trial in American history."

That's true Patty. In that case there were arrests made, and that takes it to another level by itself.
I just fear that in the current climate, one person can end the career of another with an unjust accusation, if the accuser was denied a job/promotion/fillintheblank and was trying to get even by making something up. I guess we don't have to worry if we aren't famous.
I repeat that I am in no way excusing any type of immoral, illegal or unwanted behavior. Period.

AFAIK, only one male supervisor was fired, in 25 years of working --- because of inappropriate behavior. Which included sexual harassment, plus other issues.

IMHO one of the problems is the media enhancement of every claim that is made. When I was young and really needed my job, there were no real laws to protect women (and our pay was less than a man's pay). I recall with great clarity being told that even though my credentials were great, I wasn't being hired because I was young and would probably get married and have children. Sigh. When you really needed a job and the boss was more than a little bit friendly and had octopus like hands, made sly suggestions, etc. and there was nowhere to turn for backup, you simply tolerated this junk, stayed out of his way as much as you could and just did your job. The worst offender was eventually forced into retirement when he was discovered having an inappropriate afternoon romp in the backseat of his car in the office parking lot. By then I'd had enough and left that job and many years had passed. Yep, it is not the boys' club anymore THANKFULLY!!!!!!

Just voted in the VA governor's race. Always a bellwether state. Not sure how close it will be.

Have to take Sally to an eye specialist near Charleston this morning. She's had corneal edema and high eye pressure in her left eye for almost a month. She had an ulcer on her cornea at first but that is now healed and the high pressures continue plus the edema even though I've been using prescription eye drops 5x a day. To say I'm unnerved would be a complete understatement. This little girl is such a joy! The trip will take about an hour and a half and of course, Jim is going along. It will not be an easy drive for me since I'll not only have to deal with a leashed dog, but also Jim's movement disorder. Hoping the day goes well.
