Should Karl Rove be fired?
I'm thinking about those of you who so staunchly attacked "Deep Throat" as a self-serving traitor for leaking info to the press about covert White House ops rather than pursuing it "through the system".
This time, not only did Rove go to the press to expose Wilson as a "fraud",
(rather than pursuing disciplinary action through the system if in fact he was) but he compromised the safety of an undercover CIA operative (Plame) to further his own cadre's political gains.
This was not only a dangerous breech of national security, but a reprehensible, hazardous, personal attack on someone who had performed a precarious, thankless job for her country.
Should he be fired? HELL YES!!!!
So Cordy... why am I wrong this time?

If Rove had any honor, he'd have resigned as soon as the allegations came out with no option to have Bush refuse to accept. If Bush had any honor at thjis time, he'd have fired his a$$ as soon as the info bacame public. Now how does George the Infallible, Defender of Friends, who doesn't like it when his friends are criticized, handle this? Fire him and admit some form of error or keep him and try to deny he said he'd fire the leak?
Oops, Rove didn't speak her name so it's not like he REALLY outed her.

I agree that Rove should be terminated...er...fired. The part that will be interesting is if he is prosecuted for revealing an undercover agent which is a Federal offense. Or does he slide on a technicality in that he never mentioned the actual name.
I guess is one of those political games of "how do you define it?"

Joseph Wilson acknowledged his wife was no longer in an undercover job at the time Novak's column first identified her. "My wife was not a clandestine officer the day that Bob Novak blew her identity," he said.

A former CIA covert agent who supervised Mrs. Plame early in her career yesterday took issue with her identification as an "undercover agent," saying that she worked for more than five years at the agency's headquarters in Langley and that most of her neighbors and friends knew that she was a CIA employee.
"She made no bones about the fact that she was an agency employee and her husband was a diplomat," Fred Rustmann, a covert agent from 1966 to 1990, told The Washington Times.
