I'm glad he is ok. We live in a violent world. I read about the overwhelming requests for a concealed weapon in our states. Wilmington has the highest murder rate per capita of any city in the U.S. They set yet another record in 2017. And it is spreading to other cities in our state. Very scary and carrying a concealed weapon is risky since so many thugs carry bigger ones.

I have to admit his perspective on the event is different than mine might have been.
He said he didn't want to fight them and kept telling them to stop because he didn't want to hurt them.
I told him if he's ever in that situation to just disable them hard.

Putting trash down for good, can result in jail sentence for involuntary manslaughter. A guy that works at the business next to mine served time due to a bar fight. When that "opponent" hits the ground, if he doesn't get up, you are in a world of sheit....unless one can prove self defense. Sounds like Keith would have had the self defense covered.

Disable as in you shatter someone's knee with a side kick.
Disable as in hyper-extend and dislocate an elbow.
Disable as in kick their nuts hard enough to lift 'em 4 inches off the ground.
Disable as in double handle clap to the ear drums.
Disable as in palm thrust or elbow to the larynx.
These are non-lethal but extremely effective methods of stopping an assailant.
As Lainey stated there are many legal aspects to be concerned about.
Keith said he was afraid he could kill them.
It's easy to say but most folks have never had to look the situation in the eye.
Once done you carry that action for the rest of your life.

And all the things you mentioned could have just been the start of what happened to your son.

Unless he started the fight, or contributed to why the fight started, self-defense is his right, up to and including death to his attackers. Unless his attackers were done with him, and leaving the scene, then you cannot use deadly force in most cases.

If the guy (from the business next door) started or caused the bar fight, or just joined in for fun, the right of self-defense goes out the window.

Yes, then you would be looking at jail time.

Doesn't sound like this is what happened to BB's son.
