Must be true,as we have a few of those expressions,in French,also,ie:

" Ne jetez pas le bébé,avec l'eau du bain"

Emil, I can read it fairly well, but cannot speak more than a few phrases. I wish I had studied it more in school. It is such a melodic language.

Deb: I also enjoy trivia like this, and the entomology of words. Stuff like POSH. The origin of which is said to be an acronym for Port Out Starboard Home. This is the way the "upper crust" would book their passage on steam ships while going on holiday when it was fashionable to vacation in India. By booking your ticket in this way it would place one on the shady side of the ship. As there was no air conditioning in those days, these cabins would be cooler.
