Just a fantastic video. My son IM'ed me the iconic pic of the car with the curvature of the earth in the background. That got me looking for video of the launch, and generally sent me down an Internet rabbit hole of SpaceX goodness.

One of the most fascinating things I found was a video of the press conference with Elon shortly after the launch.

Fun fact: If you look closely at the cockpit shot of the space-car, you will see a tiny version of the Tesla on the dash of the full sized one, complete with tiny "star man"

Me too!

For those that don't know the background:

The message in the middle of the dashboard of the Tesla Roadster, which has turned out to be incredibly accurate, has been perplexing visitors to SpaceX's live stream of the car.It turns out that the message is making a sly reference to Douglas Adams' comedy sci-fi series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Add that to the name of the car's 'driver', 'Starman' - that's a David Bowie nod, if you didn't know.Elon has had a long relationship with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, having first read the 'trilogy in five parts' when he was a teenager living in South Africa. The fictional guide itself has 'Don't Panic' emblazoned on its cover.Speaking with Fresh Dialogues in 2013, the billionaire inventor said the series was probably his favourite piece of sci-fi. High praise from a man who just sent an electric car into space."I read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which is quite positive, I think, and it highlighted an important point - which is that a lot of times the question is harder than the answer," Musk said.

Loved hearing the sonic booms towards the end of the video.

Interesting ( and somewhat depressing to an old engineer) to look at all those kids in the group photos of the SpaceX teams.
Damn they look like they just got out of high school.

They are all the same age as back in the day, its just the big difference is they dont allow daily smoking and drinking on the job anymore. Its all massages, aroma therapy and wheatgrass shots
