The very first Ford GT-40 to race at LeMans hit $7 million at auction. Prices like that boggle the mind. McQueen is a world-wide icon, as is Ferrari, so it will be up there. Just in case you think that is unreal numbers, Mercedes-Benz factory turned down $200 million for the #8 W-196 that one the 1955 GP. Now that's serious money.

Some of these cars have turned out to be awesome investments as well as more fun to look at and brag about than a bank statement.

I remember when Ferrari Gto's were selling in the 9-11 million dollar range and I thought that was crazy now they are going for upper 30's! Back in the 60's nobody wanted them I remember a story of one being donated to a high school auto shop class.

I have friend who was offered one after the Sebring race in the early 60's by NA Ferrari team. He wanted to buy the race car and his wife refused because he had just bought a Porsche. Later he got divorced. And, several years later when the exact same car was sold at auction for several million he copied the news report and taped it to his ex's door with a note that read "This could have been yours!"

I’m not certain when the exotic car era and its escalating prices will burst; probably when the Baby Boomers die out and Generation X and its followers fill in. They have far less of an attachment these types of cars for cars. Until then, enjoy the rush and make money by investing in exotics while you can.
