I bought one similar to this at Radio Shack some 19 years ago. It still works great and easily reaches over 100 feet. Energizer Floating Lantern

I have one of those too. I always consider it my 'cop light' since its a good head beater as well.

I purchased the 3 pack of flashlights made by Duracell sold by Costco for $19.99 and a $4 instant rebste was often offered. The lite is small and takes 4 AA batteries. They work great and were a hit at Christmas to all the males in my family.. each got one.

The "tactical" part here just means one end has raised edges for nailing some aggressor. Big deal.
Tactical means a few things, really. The brightness can temporarily blind and the strobe can disorient. The SOS feature can be used to signal for help. The construction stands up to abusive use. The longer ones can be used as clubs. I agree that trying to scratch someone's face with the crenelated end would not be my first choice in self defense.

Only 100 to 300 lumens depending on the model, from what I see on line.

I'm interested in the higher lumens. I like brightness. Self defense uses or "tacti-coolness" is irrelevant (for me).
