Default Teach for America

Not sure if any of you know someone who is teaching or has taught via this organization. The +1's son is finally graduating from college in May. It was rough going for him for a few years after his dad and mom divorced, so getting to this point has taken awhile. He is very interested in teaching and applied to Teach for America. There were over 50,000 applicants during the current application period and only 10% were chosen for the final interview process. He is one of them. He is excited and we are very proud and hopeful he will sail through the upcoming interview and be on his way to a career after graduation. Each finalist chooses 10 areas where s/he is willing to teach. His first choice is the Mississippi Delta.

Here is the website for anyone who is interested in knowing more:

Congratulations to the young man!

I hope it works out for him.

(I think a few of our daughter's friends from high school and college have participated in that program.)

Thanks...he is supposed to get an email today to log on and schedule the final interview. It's pretty involved. He has to prepare and deliver a sample lesson, participate in a group activity and have a one-on-one interview.

Congrats and good luck to him. Those high school and college years are not often fun for the kids or the parents, and extended family members.

Bravo to him. I wish him that absolute best of luck in this endeavor. We so need dedicated teachers, especially for the underprivileged areas.

If his first choice is the Mississippi Delta I'd put the odds really high that he'll get that choice. They have a big need & generally not many people want to go there.

My sibling is in the program right now, it is a good program but absolutely not for everyone. I hope he enjoys it!

If he has any questions let me know & I can get some input from my sibling.
