So what are you trying to say exactly? That inbreeding, worthless "savages" would have killed each others anyways so it was "better" for them to be slaughtered by the holier-than-god conquistadors instead? And therefore we should all go out and drink to that while the "whites" are making FAT profits out of the casinos in the reservations?

I'm simply stating that the condition is a human one. Not a European or Anglo one. It's not us and them. It's we. You have to take the times into consideration. The world was a nasty place and life as we know it is considerably better. That's reason to give thanks. That's my intention. All civilizations have junk in the closet. Don't like the reservation? Walk off and empower yourself.
Addition: I personally think the politicians like to keep us busy with this PC stuff while they are stuffing their pockets. Classic.

YIKES! You know, I recently made a resolution to try to be less controversial in my posts.... Then I see this thread.

The original post in this thread is a joke. The "Professor" can't be serious. I thought this forum was for folks 40 and over. I can scarcely believe that anyone could live that long being that stupid.
A classic troll post. Maybe he was just smarting from the downfall of that hypocrite Rush.

While I agree that its a shame we no longer celebrate Columbus day out of PC gone awry, I don't agree with much of what the Professor has stated.
I've got Hawaiian blood in my veins. I could go on and on about how my ancestors were screwed by the United States and one could draw similar comparisons as the Professor did given the constant warring of the Hawaiian people, etc. But its too easy to get to point B from point A by making those kinds of leaps.
What happened, happened. Why should I have any negative feelings for the US govt. today for something it did nearly a hundred years ago? Why not celebrate the fact that Hawaii is now a state in a country that I love. Sure, there's a ton of bad in the past but the present and the future are awesome and to me, at least, deserve celebration.

The whole "Columbus Day" thing reminds me of a riff by Eddie Murphy on the subject...
He went on to say that many people were in jail for "discovering" other peoples tvs, cars jewelry etc...
He thought it might make a good legal defense - "I'm just discovering some of this stuff right here in your living room - in the name of my queen - I'm taking this sh*t home!
On a more serious note - the imprisionment of Queen Lili'uokalani and the hijacking of the Hawaiian Islands by the U.S. is one of the darker chapters in the history of our nation.
