Default Today's mental teaser

Does a tea kettle whistle louder or softer at higher altitude?

the boiling point is lower but the overall atmospheric pressure is lower.... hmmmm

for the record I don't know the answer, I'm just curious.

My WAG is lower BP = lower energy in steam = lower frequency?

The +1 says it would be more softly...lower pressure at higher altitude.

As I ponder this further, I don't think altitude matters.( at habitable levels anyways)
the whistle volume is based of the differential of the internal vs external pressures and that is a function of heat input over time.
according to these guys How the kettle got its whistle | University of Cambridgeit's the steam's velocity that matters.
the higher the pressure differential, the higher the speed. the tone or pitch itself is fixed by the neck's dimensions.

Back in the 8th grade we had to take typing. I was also playing JV football and broke two fingers.
I got a medical out of typing. who knew?
