Our kids and older grandkids talk about "work/life balance"....a term that was not invented until 2000 or so.

I think most of us with children feel we should have enjoyed more moments with them when they were young. In our defense, many of us were working to provide them with what we thought they needed. Life gets busy.
If you are lucky enough to become a grandparent someday, you will likely find yourselves able to make the time to enjoy more of those moments and make some great memories with them/for them. When you granddaughter asks if she can sleep over at 8:30 on a Friday night, and you say yes, head out to pick her up, (even though you really hadn't planned on going out) and when she walks in and smells the popcorn her grandfather is making for her, (because she likes popcorn on Friday sleep overs) and she tells you "I feel loved" you know you done good.
It's OK to skip the regrets, just move on and try to find the time to enjoy more of life's moments.

Like some on here, I have many regrets, mainly concerning my kids and my relationships with my family. I also have a lot to be thankful for, as well, and try to remain positive. Reading this thread reminded me of the following song by George Jones, "Choices," which, for the most part, I can identify with, both good and bad. (Sorry if this is too "country" for you!)

I have one major regret in my life, although there is nothing I could have done to change it. My mother died in a fire when I was in college; I've always regretted not getting the chance to know her adult-to-adult.

In answer to the original question, I can't think of a thing I would change. That's not to say I don't hope for things in the future, like real love, but it's not like I let the good one get away.

Funny that spending time at our cottage (about 20 miles N of the M-D Line) has given me more appreciation of "country" music
