Default Tomcatt alternate drive

This is what we did last year. I believe this gives max flexibility for those that want to do a long drive and for those that want to cut it in half. The advantage of this route allows most of the groups to be together. The only change in the morning RT555 drive is that we do not go to the Bucket but continue straight to the Muddy Misers. Those that are interested in doing this drive, please comment below.

Alternate route to Marietta from Zanesville

1. Leave Muddy Misers (112 Muskingum Ave, Zanesville, OH 43701)
2. Turn LEFT on South 6th Street
3. Turn RIGHT on Main St
4. Turn RIGHT on 9th street
5. Turn RIGHT on Marietta St which turns into Sharon Ave / RT146
6. In Chandlersville, turn RIGHT on Rt284 (Big Muskie Dr). Follow this until the intersection with RT83 and bear RIGHT (straight).
7. Soon after, turn LEFT on RT78
(If desired, turn RIGHT and visit the Big Muskie Bucket or if an emergency potty break is needed. It is less than a half mile from this intersection)
8. Follow RT78 until you cross under I-77 to the Pilot Gas Station (44133 Fairground Rd, Caldwell, OH 43724). This is your fuel and bathroom stop.
9. From this point forward, groups can be formed for those that want to return to the hotel to relax or those that want to continue to Woodsfield to drive most of RT26. Both maps are included below.

I'm up for this drive w/o the Bucket, as long as Jonas is good with this run, knowing we would be the first wave at the restaurant, This is the route Mike took last year?

I really don't need bathrooms that smell ungodly awful or a 4th (or is it 5th?) bucket look. I'm in.

Mike, is Rt 78 part of the OKI Hills & Hollers drive from a couple years ago? I remember the ride into Woodsfield being very good. This would eliminate I-70 from the drive.

That was the Leafpeeper's route back in the day when I wanted to get the slower group to the Muddy Miser in about the same time as it took the Moderate group to come back up 555. A very very nice drive, but not especially challenging, which is why I never added it to the main drive. It would probably be good for right after lunch - less stomach stress for those who prefer not to push it with a full stomach!
I never liked 78 due to the high traffic, but it's a great way back and forth across I-77.
From 78, I would head up I-77 to the top of 26 for the best overall drive. I never want to miss the top part of Rt. 26. The last section coming down to Woodsfield is my absolute favorite part of the drive - that downhill very curvy stretch is a blast!

I agree there are some nice sections above Woodsfield. You could still accommodate your desires with these alternate routes below. Each one adds more time but you get to do more of RT 26 without I-77 or I-70. If you do either of these, you may want a second stop in Woodsfield. I personally think these would be too long for many people. I think for those that want to experience all of RT26, driving I-70 is still the best option, since you only have an afternoon to drive.

Below are the alternate drives for those luxuriously equipped with a catheter and a crowbar.
