Or perhaps they believe stupid conspiracy theories and, by refusing to get this kid vaccinated against Tetanus, they endangered a large number of people. If I remember correctly, it cost something like $800k to save this child. His stupid parents should be made to pay every penny of the cost.

Tetanus will never be eradicated as it is a bacteria found in soil and manure. It is all over in nature. The same can be said for the bacterium Yersinia pestis which causes several forms of plague.
Smallpox was eradicated worldwide in the 80s but the US and the USSR had some reserved for biological weapons. Indeed, I received a smallpox vaccination in 1981 will I was active duty in the Navy.( I also had one in the early 60s as part of a nationwide vaccination program.)
The military thinking was a "just in case" preventative measure.

I can't get why people decline vaccinations especially for their kids. When I was a kid I was a pin cushion. But I didn't get sick. There's a measles outbreak in upstate NY now in a community of vaccination objectors.

The problem is a few people can skip it and are protected by the general populace participation.
But if that number starts to get to high... all hell breaks loose.
I suspect an awful lot of us here, never got vaccinations for mumps, chicken pox or measles because we had the diseases instead.
There are way, way to many idiots out there who don't know their ass from their elbow making claims about vaccines cause all sorts of bad things.
an dey to pwotect their widdle hunny bunny. stupid shits.
