This truck has the undesirable 4-speed automatic + overdrive transmission. Not pleasing at all when towing. I think the 2007 models got the much more capable 6-speed automatic that's seemingly built for towing. Don't get the old 4-speed version. High revs in this ain't at all like high revs in our S2000s.

BTW, the Expedition has the same drive train and unless you need the open bed for hauling is much more pleasant to drive. With HD Tow the Expedition has a rating in excess of 9000 pounds (when properly equipped). I've owned two.

Thanks. I'll look at 2007s and newer. I don't want an SUV. I want to be able to fill the bed with gear and trash. This will be a work truck.

F150 and 5.4V8 is a good choice. Especially with the HD Tow option. 3.73 gearing.

Watch for hidden rust. I just sold my '11 Ranger as the doors we starting to rust through at the bottom!

Good thing about trucks is it is easy to get under them. Massachusetts will no longer give inspection stickers to vehicles with rust problems, so this is a real issue here.

And you can be guaranteed that if it is a Ford it has rust somewhere. Never had one that didn't!

I thought they came with rust from the factory; well maybe, they just built in the design. At least for the wheel wells on the beds. Mine have really gone downhill fast in the past 2-yrs; hey, its 21. I had planned to replace the bed on mine this summer; removed the cap; found a good source to select from in TN and then starting having a few aches and pains and never made it there. It is tops on my Spring to do list.

Driver's side isn't too bad.

Passenger's side is really bad.

There is no rust at all forward of the bed, i.e. the cab area. It all has to do the way the bed parts are assembled. Almost all F-150's have this issue. Ford may have fixed it somewhere down the line; is so, I've no idea what year.
