The Vintage Forum
Hi everyone. Recently, we have had some bumps on our usually smooth road. I won't detail them all. Some are not public. Some are hard to understand. Some are ...well, I'm not sure what all of them are about. But maybe that's the point.
We have a lot of members here in Vintage and more new people are joining and getting active in the forum all the time. The more people that participate the more diverse we become. Different people have different sensibilitites and tolerance for comments and jokes. Most people are bound to get offended at one point or another. I'm not about to make up rules of behavior. Let's try to treat eachother with some respect and do our best.
Some people won't like it here. There is some joking and kidding that goes on here. We try to be nice to eachother and keep the kidding good natured, but for some folks we will go over the line. That's just a fact of life. Don't beat yourself up about it. If you really go over the line, one of the COs will let you know.
If you see something you don't like. but don't want to go public with it, just send a PM to Lainey or me. We'll take a look at it.
Let's all try to keep things in perspective. This is a social club. We all get along well. Try not to take anything too personally. Try not to test the limits of joking and kidding. If you isult someone, say your sorry. If you can't say you are sorry, then stop talking to the person you insulted. Don't escalate the problem.
I'm sure we will all have fun at Gettysburg. Let's not cause a rukus before we get there.

I promise to behave. As best as I can.

I have to say that I'm a bit puzzled by all this.
When I started here a little over a year ago, I seem to remember a much rowdier group that included several individuals (thankfully now departed or focused elsewhere on S2Ki) who were downright nasty at times. And compared to most other forums I participate in, it's like a well-policed church social here.
Obviously, virtual gatherings of this nature aren't for everyone, and that's just fine. On the other hand, people need to have reasonably thick skins -- becoming offended by every little slight, perceived or real, just isn't functional in any world, real or virtual.
Without knowing details, it's not possible to diagnose what the "problem" is; but it could well be as simple as this: S2Ki is a web site focused on our cars. Many people expect to find cars discussed here, and they are in a lot of the other forums. But since they're not on Vintage (or in about 90% of the posts they're not), maybe these folks are just not interested in joining in this particular social clique.
And just like they need skins thick enough to survive, so do we. Beating ourselves up about it doesn't seem particularly constructive. HPH

Thank you! But I've made my blunders along the way, got my feelings hurt, and moved on. And apologized when I felt like I needed to. And I think that photo is as bad as I'll let on to.

is always in the right place.
I think I missed something that must be obvious to many of you. I like it here. I'm gonna stay and that's all I have to say about it. Now, having exausted my tired ole bones, I'm going to take a short nap.
This is one of the most respectful and friendly forums that I have participated in. I love the banter. There are bound to be curmugeons and trolls but on the balance, the Vintage forum is way over on the "great people" side. I generally ignore curmugeons and never feed the trolls. In the short time I've been here I've learned a lot...laughed a lot and met a couple of folks that I'd like to learn more about and become friends with. Lainey and Bill deserve a lot of credit for creating a great place the over 40 crowd to meet. Some will leave and new people will join. It's the diversity of mind and experienece in this forum that makes it so interesting.
