High in the 40s today. No sunshine - gray! Going to watch the Rice baseball team intersquad scrimmage today. The Owl Club is serving BBQ at lunch. New coach and staff this year.

It is interesting how the process of freezing filtered out the die and forced it to the center.

It sure is! I'm going to get out there and make an ice bowl and see if it gets layered colors. Now, I'm all interested even though it's not as cold and may not freeze. (Hey, I wonder if different colors will separate! I'll have to use a few.) I think though, that balls would freeze the slowest. Maybe that's part of the grand design of men? I think I remember something from an early physics or calculus class that it was a very efficient shape for volume.

^2-10-2019. And today we have ice bowls. I did not flip them over yet because I can hear cracking sounds which makes me think they are still freezing and expanding. It looks like the food coloring separated out by itself again.

^ Yeah, many synthetic food dyes are derived from petroleum, or crude oil, so they will separate from water and have different freezing points. In my preteen years I made many shapes from frozen water using an assortment of balloons. It was fun.

Well, that explains it! Thank you, Gary. I'm still a kid at heart.
