What car did you take your driving test in?

This was the question of the week on a blog that is getting lots of response, so I thought I would try it here.

For me it was a 1956 Pontiac, exactly like the one in this picture . . . . but like many at that time period I had been driving older friend's cars when I was underage. The hot young lady was only in my dreams.

I don't remember. It might have been my 1971 Datsun 510 that I bought before I had my license. I was 19 years old and rode my 10-speed everywhere.

A car I would love to have today!!!

For me, it was an 18 year old 1974 Ford LTD that became my car :P

It had to be my Mom or Dad's car. Dad drove a 1962 Pontiac Bonneville and Mom had a 1960 Falcon with three on the tree.

Side note: one summer after I got my license, I signed up for driving lessons at the nearby high school. They picked me up at my house and the teacher said we would have to go back to the HS to get a permit for me. When I told him that I already had my license, he was visibly happy. The other two students couldn't drive and he had to be on his toes. When my turn came he relaxed like he was on a Sunday drive. (signed up to lower my insurance premiums)

My car was a 1949 Ford Custom 2dr Club Coupe. It later had a 283ci Chevy V8 to replace its 239 CID (3.9 L) Flathead V8 (100 HP)!

50's Pontiacs ...They had a nice forward facing grill

S1997 03-29-2019 08:33 AM

My first car was a 39 Chevy stove bolt 6, that the neighbor mechanic helped me to overhaul in my garage. But I took my driving test in my dad‘s 54 Hudson Hornet with 3 on the tree. Dave, My dad and I travelled by train to Detroit in 1956 to pick up a new Pontiac Catalina at the factory, then drove it down to NM.
