I’m so old I remember hearing radio ads for the hottest ‘medicinal tonic’ of the fifties, Hadacol. And there were trucks with Hadacol ads written across their trailers. The marketer, some US senator from Louisiana explained that, well, “I hadda call it something”. It was supposedly very popular in dry states and counties...

I think it had to do with the 12% alcohol. Just a guess...
