You never know when life is going to shit of you
A good friend and drinking buddy went into the hospital two weeks ago. They said he had pneumonia. He spent a couple days there and they sent him home. Next thing we knew he was back in the hospital again. We figured the pneumonia was taking a turn for the worse. Imagine the shock when he was told he has stage 4 cancer in his liver, lungs, etc. etc. He's at least 10 years younger than me. Had his first chemo yesterday; second is scheduled for today.

Yikes, that is bad...I'm very sorry for your friend. Between that and your post about your son-in-law having the kidney stones and the grandkids with strep throat, not a good day. Kidney stones can be very painful. I hope the other two get taken care of soon and you find a way to salvage your fishing trip.

So sorry to hear this, Dave. Daughter in law's Mom had stage 4 uterine cancer. She's responded well to treatment, surgery, chemo and radiation. Last scans were good. I'm guessing treatment options at stage 4 may depend on the patient, type of cancer etc. Stage 4, as far as I know, means it has spread, but I think there is also a "grade" of the cancer that they may factor in. The treatment is grueling as we all know. I hope your friend responds to treatment has more time to enjoy life. Positive attitude is most important.

Not that it would have mattered a lot but how did they miss the diagnosis the first time?
A coworker just had a stage 3 melanoma removed from his ear and down into his neck.
He bugged his primary care for two years about this cut on his ear that just wouldn't heal.
"oh I don;t think that's anything, give it time."

You have to be your own advocate. Off to dermatologist you should go with anything that does not heal. I hope this guy does ok and gets a new primary doc

That sucks, Dave! Shit.

Wow best of luck to your friend. As others mentioned a reminder to be your own advocate. My mom was persistent with some stomach pains she was having and kept being told it was heartburn, change diet, etc... eventually the right doctor found an extremely rare cancer which can be stalled by a monthly shot.

That sucks. I feel bad for your friend and for you too. We lost a friend and ex neighbor to cancer last week. Cancer has no mercy, I hope I see a cure for it in my lifetime but I doubt it.

Sorry to hear that. I seriously hope he pulls through.
