Yeah, my health is not where I want to cheap out.

I have the total price for my oral surgeon's part of the implant. If I used insurance, which I don't have, it would be $5,044. If I paid by credit card it would be $4,791.80. I'm paying a total of $4,539.60, which includes a 5% senior discount and a 5% cash/check discount.

The oral surgeon broke down the costs as follows, without any discounts:

Extraction, bone graft, IV: $2,051.05 ($750 of that was for the IV to be put out)
Work Up #31: $660.00
Implant #31: $2,070.00
Stability Test: $155.00

I don't know what the dentist will charge for his "tooth". He charged me $1,409 for the last porcelain/ceramic substrate crown he made for me. His office told me they couldn't give a discount for paying by cash. I might look elsewhere if they stick to that since, obviously, the oral surgeon right next door can and did.

Does anybody know if the implant fake tooth costs about the same as a crown?

I think the crown for a tooth, and the "tooth" for the implant are pretty much the same thing, in the same price ranges. The dentist who cannot give cash discounts may be bound by some insurance that he does accept. My former dentist did allow cash discounts and was audited by Delta Dental...she had "charge backs" in her payments by them. If they are giving cash discounts for a procedure, they essentially are charging the cash paying customer less than they charge the insurance. I now just pay by credit card. No discount but I can get cash back from the CC people. It also gives me a little satisfaction knowing the dentist is getting "dinged" by the CC people by 3% or more. The cost of dental procedures is not exactly affordable for many. Do you know any poor dentists?

My crown will cost $2,250 in addition to the extraction, bone graft, and implant cost.

Hmm. I better ask my dentist what he's going to charge me. Thank you, Gene.

Ouch! Last time anyone in our house had a crown it was about $1600.00, maybe this process is different, or maybe the price just keeps going up.....
