3M Paint Defender Spray Clear Film
#41
I recommend just spending the extra dough and installing actual 3M nanotechnology film. I have over half the car covers for over 5 years now. The installation makes the big difference. Search for a reputable installer who is a certified and trained professional with 3M products. I would not recommend the film on windshields. They scratch easy and the water doesn't bead as well. Over time water seeps in between the film and the windshield due to sand pitting or any windshield cracks.
But, who the hell would ever think of putting it on a windshield anyway? That sounds completely ridiculous! Glass is far, far harder and more scratch resistant, so why the heck would you ever put in on the windshield?!

Don't knock it unless you've tried it. It's a special acrylic film made for windshields in expensive cars. I got it at a bang up price when someone ordered one for a high end Porsche and backed out. Given all the sandpitting and issues on AZ highways I was able to save my original windshield on the car with the etched Vin# for over 5 years now without any major issues. In other words no rock chips or major damage. I only took it off last year when I started tracking the car and given it was starting to show some wear.

For track days or extended drives where sand, rocks or debris might be an issue try these products.

I think I'm gonna try this. Had the car washed and it revealed I picked up a lot of rock chips from a salt spreader last week. I should have known better not to take my car out that day. Flawless original paint ruined.

www.trakktape.com. also available in Canada- about $160 for a 6"x600' roll.
I've also installed the 3M paint protection film in various chip prone areas of my S. I have zero professional skills at this and it went on easily. If you have a connection at 3M it is relatively inexpensive...relatively.
I've seen the performance of the 3m paint defender and am very impressed. I'll be doing my lower oem lip this winter and hitting the dragon. I'll report in april.

Some recommendations from my experience with this product. I had problems with the aerosol can spitting and getting runs/drips when I applied to my S2000. I called 3M and they have new nozzle design and told me to go back to Autozone and exchange my used for a new can with the new nozzle and even said they'd mail me new cans if Autozone didn't take them back(the new nozzle is shaped something like an arrow). There was absolutely zero spitting with the new nozzle design and I put on 6-7 thin coats instead of the 3 thick coats the directions recommend and waited about 3-5 minutes between coats to let each layer set up a little so that the liquid didn't pile up and run. Turned out perfect this time.
I think the problem, especially with our cars, is that the hood is at a fairly steep angle which promoted runs. But if you use the thin layers and wait a bit between spraying them this won't happen.

Any pictures? I just clay'd and waxed my car and I was thinking I should probably do this meow. If it works with thin coats, I might just do the entire front bumper too.

A couple of years ago, I did some custom work on the front of my car and decided not to put on a clear bra again. I just use TrakkTape on track days and take my chances on the street.
My Canadian distributor was getting overwhelmed by his day job, so we now process Canadian orders on our main site. www.trakktape.com.
Pricewise, the 6" x 100' roll is $65, but the 6" x 600' roll is six times as much tape at a little more than twice the price at $145. I offer the same rolls for forums like yours at $120. Just tell me which forum you saw it on when you order and I'll refund the discount immediately, and, of course, if you like it, a good review on FaceBook TrakkTapeor here is appreciated. Also, I offer a no questions asked, full moneyback guarantee including return postage.
TrakkTape is just a tiny little garage company. Most of what I make from it goes to race rubber, brakes, etc. for my Lotus. I'm always happy to answer any questions, so feel free to email me through the site, or call me on my cell at 760-285-2220. I love helping people protect their cars!
And I came sooooooooooo close to getting an S2000! Man, what a fabulous engine!!
Thanks for lending an ear. David
