Default brand new tires - cleaning residue on sidewall w WD40?

So I just put on on a set of DWS06 all season tires on a brand new set of factory replica rims (Ap2 v1, 04). The rims look good but the new tires have the usual white residue on the side walls. I tried to clean with generic tire cleaners and brush but that made it even more apparent. The tires only have 50 miles on them but this stuff is really bothering me. I read online that one can use WD40 (leave it on for 20 mins) and then rinse it off with soap and that should take care of the residue. Is that safe for new tires? Should I wait for break in (500 miles) before doing that. Does it even work? and would it damage tires. Someone also suggested using Mr.Clean on the side walls takes it off (it beats the other suggestion of rolling the goo off with my bare nails).

I have a similar issue with my Pilot Super Sports that I took off the car with only 4k miles on them. But those should be easier to clean since they are off the car now. they did get better over time on their own.

Note: last point. My new DWS06 tires have the tiny rubber needles sticking out around the rim lip. I understand these are from the mold release process. But I don't have the same effect on the fronts. I was wondering if that is common... i.e some tires of the same brand have it and others (less wide fronts) don't.

WD-40 has a lot of solvents in it. Think mineral spirits, hexane, etc. Personally, I would be concerned about how those solvents might impact the rubber. I wouldn't do it...

There are several good commercial wheel and tire cleaners in the local store. Use one of these and scrub with a brush and then apply a good tire dressing. You should look in the wash and wax forum.

the adams tire and rubber cleaner is ok it does work but takes many applications and scrubbing to get them squeaky clean imho. i own it and still use it but....
after many different products to get tires clean, i use tarminator, this stuff cuts through old tire shine, dirt, grease like crazy. getting the tires down the bare bones even helping remove the mold release agents from when the tires are made (that nasty brown stuff)

Over the years I have gotten asked how do I dress tires. This tire dressing is horrible. Why can't I get a good application or why are they brown after I dress them.

I have found after cleaning the wheels and tires, we are usually left with tires that are still dirty, tires that can use a bit more cleaning from weeks maybe even months of baked on cake dust.

We tend not to neglect or wheels but are we giving our tires a real cleaning?

Take a look at a our quick tip below.

1. Here we have a brand new BMW M3 with less than 200 miles on it. The wheels and tires don't look bad after they were cleaned with Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner and Adam's All Purpose Cleaner. However going the extra step will revel it to be an essential step to clean tires.

2. Use a microfiber towel you can sacrifice, as you will not want to keep it after all 4 tires are cleaned up. Spray some Stoner's Tarminator on the towel and with some firm pressure scrub or wipe the tire. Spray more Tarminator as needed while flipping the towel to a cleaner side as it gets caked up.

3. After the tire is cleaned up, you will see that the tires are of a nice matte finish, if you like the look of a factory fresh tire you have now achieved the finish you desire. Many of our customers who track their cars love this look.

4. If you want to add a nice pop to the tire use your favorite tire dressing. Here we use the Adam's Hex Grip Pro Tire Applicator and Adam's Super VRT to add that nice finish to a freshly detailed M3.

Here we have our final results. A nice clean dressed up tire, free of any browning and brake dust. The results not only look great but a properly cleaned and dressed tire will prevent from tire dressing sling as well.
