Thumbs up Want to polish this STB from black to SHINY

Pretty simple, I want to take my OEM STB from my nsx and polish it out.

I have access to basic tools, sandpaper, and a Dremel of course

BEFORE (what I have now)

AFTER (this is how I want it to look afterwards)

go to home depot. look for paint stripper in an aerosol can. made by kleen strip. i cant remember the name, but it works great.
of course you will need to remove the STB from your car first.

if it comes out pretty smooth after the paint has been wiped off, you can use rouge to shine it up a bit. if not, start with the least agressive sandpaper, around 3000 or 4000 grit. follow up with some good metal polish like 1Z or Adam's (both can be bought from our sponsor).

A tip about the paint stripper. Let it dwell for a while, after each application, then wipe off as much as you can befores having to scrap/sand any off. this will sve you sanding/polishing work in the long run.

have you called around to any powdercoating shops for an estimate? you could just get it powdercoated, and it seems to be pretty cheap as alot of people are able to powder rims for like 40-50$ a rim, so a STB might be around that range or cheaper, definately worth the cost when it could take you lots of time to do it by hand...

I don't think you can powder coat to a polished finish.

Some good advice from slanguage.

Id use Jasco paint remover to strip off all the paint, than if it is smooth underneath I would start with 220 grit or even 400 and wetsand all the way up to 2000. Buff out with some mothers billet aluminum polish after that. All this would be done by hand. Bling Bling with some elbow grease.

Heres how my R6 came out polishing it by hand.

If it's powdercoated on, you're going to have a hard time removing the coat w/o means of abrasive materials. Just like others have said, you can't lose but a couple bucks on the paint stripper. If it works, it'll work great, if it doesn't, you'll just have to re-polish the surface .

try getting some powdercoat/ paint stripped from eastwood.

Its called dekote. Its safer to use than other strippers.

Also, you can powdercoat to a polished finish. Its a 2 step coat which starts with a metallic like base coat followed by a shiny clear coat.

The choice is up to you
