wheel cleaner

i am curious why we need the wheel cleaner to clean the wheel ? I mean to save cost we can just use the car wash soap right ? shouldn;t it be the same thing. Or i am missing something with those wheel cleaner ?

Thanks

you are right for well kept wheels...

however, for wheels with heavy brake dust or other issues, sometimes you gotta be more aggressive.
i always try to go non acid when i have to be more aggressive-

but you are right on... i prob use car shampoo (with a brush) 90 percent of the time on wheels

Yea normally I wouldn't use any sort of wheel cleaner. However I recently took of the rims to clean out the insides, and having a brush and some good wheel cleaner would help a LOT in that kind of situation. I used just soap, water and a brush and I still have to get some of the dust off.

wanabe 04-08-2007 07:34 PM

p21s wheel cleaner is an excellent "upgrade" from regular shampoo...

absolutely a great product for harder to clean wheels-

The best OTC wheel cleaner I've used is Eagle One's all-wheel-and-tire cleaner. Literally melts brake dust/dirt off of wheels and tires!

I agree with wanabe. IF, and only IF your wheels are clean, and always kept clean, you can wash them with regular old soapy water. But, most people dont have the luxury (Im definetely not one of them) to be able to wash their car all the time, so the wheels get that baked on in goodness that soap/water just cant get off.

My s2k does not "brake dust" its wheels enough to make use of special wheel cleaners on it necessary, IMO. They clean just fine with car wash solution and a proper brush. Why do they make and sell wheel cleaner? Buy a Mercedes or a Ford Expedition, or one of a long list of other cars, and you'll find out why. My Mercedes "dusts" its wheels badly (mainly the fronts) and a special wheel cleaner is definitly needed. For this I do like PS 21.
