I am thinking about removing the tape from my 06. I am glad to see that people are successful in removing it from cars older than mine. I hope that it will come off in big pieces and that I don't have any scratches underneath.

To think that piece around the windshield that is cracked and an eyesore is just tape! Here I am trying to look up what it is in the parts store, haha. Getting it off a 14 year old car probably won’t be fun, but it can’t look any worse than the cracked tape.

It took me the better part of the day, bruised hands and cracked finger nails, and 1000s of tiny little pieces on my 01 when it was 17yr old. Adheasive stayed behind so that was even further fun cleaning up after the 1000s of little pieces

Well worth it in the end.

If you ask me, this car doesn't have a soft top. It's a wash top, only goes up for washing in the summer. Lol

They make rubber eraser wheels to remove pinstripes, maybe that will work. I used it to remove 30 year old pinstripes on one of my cars. Took about 10 min without any glue residue left.

Problem is the soft top seal and windshield moulding. The vinyl goes under them. So you still have the edges hidden that a pinstripe wheel won't get. As well narrow space and you don't wanna catch that wheel on those

Earlier posts indicate some cars are indifferently finished/painted under the tape -- I considered this years ago but didn't want to risk it. Gotta admit it looks great with the yellow hard top. :)

I always liked the car better with the tape removed and definitely with a hardtop. When I removed mine it was in good shape underneath, there were some scuff marks but they came off easily with some polish.

I recently purchased a project car that came with some huge number badges on the side of the car, like you would find in autocross cars, solid vinyl that have been on the car 10+ years. I thought they would come off in a million pieces as they were so brittle when I tried a test removal on one corner. It was then suggested that I use a heat gun on them. I did that as I have a really good heat gun tool, and the badges came off in one giant piece very easily after being heated up. I couldn't believe how easy it was. I wish I used that method when I did my S2000 tape removal, I did the removal during the winter storage season and the tape came off in hundreds of small pieces. I used some of those wooden cuticle nail sticks that aestheticians use in nail salons to crape off small pieces of tape that were hard to lift, the wood sticks worked well and did not scuff the paint. Looking back now I wish I had used a heat gun, that would have been so much easier.

Instead of using a nylon washer, use plastic razor blades available on Amazon. They won’t damage the paint, and will make the job easier.
