I know people frequently replace the oil jet banjo bolts but why? Is their something wrong with the stock ones? I am FI should I be worried?

There are lots of threads about replacing them but I haven't been able to find one that stated why.

 

The early ones don't flow enough oil. Mid-2002 ones onwards have 4 holes rather than 2.

 

If you are FI, definitely do it.

 

People with the older ones tend to get scorred cylinder walls easier due to the banjo bolts.

 

Is this a lubrication problem or a cooling problem?

Also, where could I get the jet bolts from? the install doesn't seem that difficult and I am sure I could do it some time over the next few months.

 

Any dealership should have them, just make sure you get them for an 03 or up (mid 02's got them but not all of them). Hardtopguy also has them on his site. It's a lubrication problem, it doesnt flow enough oil and the cylinder pretty much overheats from the friction and causes scoring on the walls. I had to replace my shortblock already due to a scorred wall and it's not fun or cheap! My new block had them in but I think cylinder 1 will be a PITA because the oil pump and stuff is in the way.

 

would it really be that bad? Don't you just jack up the car, drain the oil, take the pan off, and replace the bolts?

They seem fairly easy to get at.

How can you tell if you have scored walls?

and can't you just remove the oil pump?

 

i got all the bolts but I havent tackled this yet. Not looking forward to it.. Id rather do my clutch again then this

02 engines with serial numbers higher than #1025386 should have the new ones
