I love knowing that in 10 years, people will make videos like this of our S2000.

Once an awesome driver's car, always an awesome driver's car, regardless of what succeeds it.

Doubt it, the s2k production run was 10 years in the us and sold many more than the fd.

There's only really a weight penalty for convertibles when their "convertibleness" is added onto a car primarily designed to have a fixed roof.
Cars like the s2000, Miata, Boxster, don't suffer a weight penalty for being convertibles because that's what they were designed for from the get-go. Some of the lightest-weight sports cars of all time have been convertibles: Lotus/Caterham Super 7, Triumph Spitfire, MG Midget/A-H Sprite, etc.

But I don't think the S2000 is lighter than an FD anyway.
My base-model FD weighed 2780 lb. before the LS2 swap, about what an early AP1 or a CR weighs. With the LS2, with P/S, A/C, full interior, roll bar, much bigger wheels/tires/brakes it's at 2830 lb., I believe that's still lighter than an AP2.

I love this thing, especially the spirit R.
I hate the engine and reliability, I know too many people who have blown multiple motors...

There was someone on s2ki swapping a f20c a while back..... Does anyone know if he ever completed his project ?

Beautiful machine. Since it came from Mazda, i would imagine it's a re-spec that qualifies as a Spirit R. Always loved the RX7.

Imagine someone taking a '00 year S2000, throwing in club racer seats, wheels and bumpers and then claiming its a CR. This is about the equivalent.

Except for the part where the suspension was also upgraded? Its a spec car - any RX chassis could be built to that spec, technically speaking. I'm guessing its not fully built out?

I'm not saying the car isn't pretty cool, as it is..but its a long ways off from being a spirit-R. I've seen a few build by enthusiasts on forums that are much better clones than this one is. There are just a ton of little differences with the spirit-Rs that are not carried over to this car. To add to that the fact that they didnt even start with a US Spec "R" package, but rather a touring or "popular equipment package" is sort of odd. If anyone really cares that much I can make a list of all the little things I had noticed are not correct, but I'm not really trying to bring the car down per say.. but IMO its pretty far off from being a Spirit-R. I was just trying to share information with others who may not be so informed on these cars, not just trying to put it down. I would hope if I was on another forum and someone posted something about an S2000 that was not really correct, someone from here would shed a bit more info.
