Curious on some opinions on gauge placement. I'm not into pillar gauge pods, hated them on my last race car. I ordered an Ortiz dash trim pod and it was cracked on arrival and the bezels on my AEM X series was too large to fit.

The AEM X gauges are super thin so I tried to mount them on the radio door, all went well until trying to route the wiring, theres just too much to deal with and I don't want to delete the radio.



This leaves me with the dash solution which is very easy, but I'm a little hesitant just because I feel like it looks half ass.



Or building something like this on the passenger airbag cover, but I wont't be able to reach the gauges from the drivers seat with my harness on.


What do you guys think?

 

I think anywhere away from your eyesight will driving is not optimal.

What didn't you like about having them in the pilar?? If it was the how they stick out maybe since your new ones are pretty slim you can mount them on the pilar using something like this and keep them tucked in the pillar ???

 

I'm sure S4Play wound be more than happy to make and sell these for $800 / piece and $1000 for a carbon fiber version.

 

They obstruct my field of view out of the windshield, I don't need to be looking at my gauges mid driving, I usually check them when I'm on the front straight, and not again until the next lap if everything is normal.

This is almost identical to the Ortiz pod, but it really lacked in quality and delivery. I think S4play made this himself

 

In my race car I have two gauges at the radio place. Custom made peice that houses my two gauges, the obd2 port and the hazard switch. The most important gauge (afr) is located on the radio controls above the push to start. I was or will put the gauges mounted on my cage either on the a pillar or at the top near the hard top.

I picked up Defi gauges because they have a mounting bracket on them that can stick pretty much anywhere. When it came down to doing it, i decided id prefer not to mount them like that because its not very clean in appearance. Havent installed them yet, 2 years later.

 

I have a dash that's already cut for gauges that I just took out. It's currently cut for 60mm defi gauges I think. I was planning on selling it with my supercharger kit but I'd gladly separate it if you want.

 

Thanks for the offer, I think I'm going to drill the dash and use Autometer angle rings to cant them toward me a bit.

Depending on how many parameters you want viewable on a gauge/gauges. The best solution is the gaugeART can gauge that they just released. It will work with many ecu systems and will display almost all parameters you choose, even up to 4 at once in a digital layout. Sos is also about to release a product that deletes radio controls for a single gauge next to the start button.

The S2000 is cramped as it is, let alone adding more gauges. The can gauge control box is built into the gauge itself, so that helps with cars low on space from other electrical add ons.

I will be reviewing the can gauge on my kpro4 equipped S2000 in the coming weeks.
