2018/2019 Honda S2000
A base Boxster is $56k and delivers 300 hp in a pretty straightforward manner. Why would I want a Honda for about the same price?
A loaded 160hp Miata is like $32k - there is the same giant gap between this and the Porsche that has always existed.
The original S2000 was great because it was an elegant solution to a roadster and beat cars like the Boxster at its own game while doing it for thousands less dollars.
If I was going to bring a convertible sports car to market these days, I'd be looking for a solution that delivers Boxster performance for $40k.

The next Honda S2000 could have an electric twin-charging system | Autoweek
Felt good to read the headline after all these years.
We'll see where things go, but the proposed timing would be good for a milestone moment return.
Speaking for myself, an S2000 return would inject the needed 'sport' back into the brand and get me to think about Honda again.
I say to Honda, go for it!

I would like to explore why the $50k price point is such an issue.
i paid about $35k for my S2000 in 99, going on 18 years ago.
why wouldn't a car that goes toe to to with a current Boxster be ok at $50k?
if they are going after the previous S2000 customers, they will likely want more content and their incomes have climbed since the early 2000s

This is probably regional, but I still paid MSRP in 2002 and had to wait a few weeks for the boat from Japan. None in stock at local dealerships been then.
I can't wait for a review comparing the new s2000 to the mid-engine Vette, factory turboed Subaru BRZ, the new RX-7, a Miata with more than 200 hp, the Elio, and a Volkwagen that doesn't have electrical problems, but I don't believe in fairy tales.
I paid mrsp
i added the body kit and a spare set of wheels
i think it cost me $600 to have the car shipped from the dealer near Buffalo to Boston
the dealers around Boston were all heavy into loading the cars with every available accessory and hitting you with a market adjustment on top of that

In '03, I paid MSRP or perhaps just under for one of three S2000's on the dealer's lot. The had an '02 used in the showroom, but was only a few 1000 less. Did not make sense going for the used one at the time.
