Default Cross country drive

I just drove my S from California to New York and didn't see another S2000 at all. What does it all mean Mr Natural?

Curious how this drive went for you relative to:

1 Comfort
2 Fuel cost
3 Total drive time

Looks like you took the southern route. Were you running the AC much?

Wow! That's a long haul. Just you or with a passenger?
We went up north to a friend's cabin this weekend. 2 hours each way. That was about the longest I'd want to go.

gerry100 wins the "recognize the obscure R. Crumb/Mr Natural reference" trivia! I'll answer more questions after a family cookout I'm already late for

There are plenty of others who have gone on long journeys in the S. The key is to stop every 2-3 hours to stretch and refuel.

1. I've always found the S comfortable enough on long trips, but the older I get the more I notice a little bit of a sore neck after ~6 hours of driving.
2. Gas was cheapest in NV, 12 fill-ups/top-offs averaging 10 gallons at each stop over the 3000 mile trip. I was getting at least 300 miles per tank which seemed unaffected by what speed I set cruise control on, between 59 mph to 81 mph.
3. As I mentioned above, it was a 3000 mile trip from Redding, CA to Palmyra, NY via HWY 50 to I-70 East to I-90. Left CA Sunday morning, arrived in NY at 11:30 pm Wednesday night.
I did run the AC quite a bit in Utah and from Eagle, CO, pretty much to NY to keep the windshield defogged from snow (in the Rocky mountains) and rain.

I took my 9 yr old son, and we had a blast! We plan on doing it again seven years from now when he is old enough to share in the driving duties.

I'm 62 now so back in '13 I was 59 and my wife and I took a 21 day, 7500+ miles drive over 13 western states. One of the best vacations the wife and I had ever had. We plan to do a trip that goes from the west to east in Canada. Then to Ocean City, Maryland(one end of Hwy 50) back to West Sacramento(other end of Hwy 50), all 3000 plus miles of Hwy 50. Have to do this in late summer/early fall and will take around a month. If not this year, then next year it will be. The S is so much fun to take on long trips, the fun makes the slight discomfort of the car all better.

I hear you. At 6'2" and 220, I feel like I approach the size limit for this car and I would still rather drive it long distances than many other cars. I drove 7 hours to the tail of the Dragon with no discomfort and often do 4-6 hours weekend drives without issue. I drove about 15 hrs and 1000 miles home from purchasing the car last year and I wasn't missing my CR-V on that trip either. Heck, people ride motorcycles across country.

I enjoy driving the S on long road trips. Did a 12 day trip to Colorado last summer. Best thing is the soft top down and enjoy the great scenery out west.
