Cool shots. Do you use a tripod for those? Or just wing it?
Just "winging" it. the tit mouse photo is pretty heavily cropped... The finch photo is cropped, but not so much. I was hanging around near the tree, trying not to be seen. My lens does have image stabilization so I don't have to drag out the tripod though I'm sure I'd get better shots if I did. . The lens is a nice piece of "glass" and the new camera has a better sensor than my first one, so I can still get a decent photo even with cropping.

I have to have a Jim Beam to be steady, otherwise I'd have the shakes. I am steady now while typing this, so I'd be ready if I just had a camera.
We've had nothing but rain, the little sun in between is keeping Rick's sod (job done last fall) nice and green. It does not, however, make a great background when taking pics of a hummingbird from inside the house. But here you go! PS The hummingbirds have been very active.

Great photo! My hummingbird feeder isn't working, yet. Any tricks to getting the birds to notice it?
Thanks!
Thanks, guys. Wind a little red on the feeder. If the feeder isn't red, you can even tie a red ribbon somewhere near by. Flowers attract them. I make the feed 4 cups water to 1 cup sugar. You can even go sweeter to attract them. I had three different ones stop by at lunch time today. Watch for them when you have breakfast and again at dinner, towards dusk too.

We are seeing 2-3 per day at ours....
I'm sure there are others, we just aren't looking out that window all day!
I have never had any luck with a hummingbird feeder. On the other hand, there are a couple flowers in Bea's garden that attract them like crazy! (Don't know the name. I'll have to ask her.)

I toss out more feed/liquid than they eat. We have plenty of flowers that attract them too, I think they prefer the flowers. With the feeder just outside the window, I get to see them up close, even more so right now since the garden is not in full bloom yet.
Lainey, we have a red feeder and do the same mixture but have never had but a couple at a time and they fight. We've never had flocked like others do; probably because we have SO many flowers.
